Japanese Tattoos in Cartagena
Japanese tattooing is built on bold outlines, flowing backgrounds and symbols with deep meaning: koi, dragons, masks, cats, waves and cherry blossoms. Symbols and what they mean
The koi stands for perseverance, the dragon for strength and wisdom, and cherry blossoms for the beauty of a short life. Masks and foxes come from Japanese folklore, while waves and clouds link the elements into one composition. Before drawing, Erick asks what the symbol means to you, because a Japanese tattoo works best when the subject has a personal reason.
From a small motif to a full sleeve
You can start with a single motif, such as a kitsune mask or a koi on the upper arm, and grow the piece later with waves, flowers and backgrounds. Erick designs the flow so that new additions connect naturally. If you are visiting Cartagena for a short time, tell us your dates and we will plan how much can be done.
Healing a Japanese tattoo
Japanese work often combines solid black lines with color and shading, so it needs proper care while it heals. Keep the tattoo clean, avoid the sun, the sea and pools until it has healed, and apply the ointment we recommend in a thin layer. Written aftercare is provided in English or Spanish.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a Japanese tattoo cost in Cartagena?
Small Japanese tattoos start from USD 50. Larger pieces, such as a sleeve or a back piece, are quoted per project once we see your idea, the size and the placement. We confirm the price before you commit to anything.
Do I need to know the meaning of my design?
It is not required, but it helps. Erick explains the traditional meaning of each symbol and helps you choose the ones that fit your story, so the tattoo means something to you and not only looks good.
Can I add to my Japanese tattoo later?
Yes. Many clients start with one motif and add backgrounds, flowers and waves on another visit. Erick designs the first piece with that growth in mind so the new parts connect naturally.
Can Erick do a small Japanese tattoo without an appointment?
Small Japanese motifs can sometimes be done the same day, depending on availability. We are open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 19:00. For larger pieces, book ahead and send us your references.
